Earth Leakage Relay Wiring:

This diagram shows how to make Earth Leakage Relay Wiring. In this circuit, we use 3 phase energy meter, an FP MCCB ( Four Pole Molded Case Circuit Breaker ), a CT coil, and a 3-phase motor, and an ELR ( Earth Leageake Relay ). This circuit is very simple and easy to make. If you want to know more about this circuit please check our youtube video below the post.

Components used to make the Earth Leakage Relay Wiring:

01. 3 Phase Energy Meter:

The Meter Which is used for Measuring the Power of the 3-phase supply is known as the 3-phase energy meter. A 3-phase Energy meter is a 3-phase 4-wire direct Connected meter that is Used to estimate the electricity on the Three-phase power supply, mostly for residential & commercial use. A 3-phase meter helps consumers & utilities in revenue protection. The 3-phase meter is Constructed by Connecting the 2 single-phase meters through the shaft.

02. FP MCCB:

The MCCB consists of a bimetallic sheet that expands and contracts when the temperature of the MCCB changes. Due to overload, the bimetallic strip will start to bend and eventually. it will trip if more current flows in the circuit than the predetermined current. The trip mechanism opens the breaker. MCCB stands for Molded Case Circuit Breaker. It is another type of electrical protection device that is used when the load current exceeds the limit of a miniature circuit breaker. The MCCB provides Protection against Overload, and Short Circuit Faults and is also used for Switching the Circuits.

03. CT Coil:

A current Transformer is a device used to measure alternating currents. The transformer used with the ammeter for high-quality AC current measurement is called a current transformer abbreviated as CT. Current transformers are mainly used to measure high current flow. We know that high power lines carry a lot of currents. In this case, an ordinary ammeter or multimeter cannot measure this current flow. Current transformers are used in Acorn.

04. ELCB:

ELCB complete earth leakage circuit breaker works on earth leakage production. Usually, the ELCB circuit breaker has two cables Phase and Neutral if any load is directly connected to the earth without taking neutral from ELCB then the circuit breaker will trip automatically. Earth leakage circuit breakers are used in applications to prevent electric shock and electrical fire caused by a short circuit or overload in the control panel by automatically closing when leakage is detected.

05. 3 Phase Motor:

A 3-phase electric motor uses a 3-phase Power Supply to Convert Electric Energy into Mechanical Energy. It contains four Wires (Three hot Wires and one Neutral Wire) and Uses 3 Alternating Currents of the Same Frequency. Since it Generates a Rotating Magnetic Field, it does not need a Capacitor for the Startup. Some 3-phase Motors are Reversible, Which Means they can serve as Generators by Turning Mechanical Energy into Electrical Energy.

Frequently asked questions

How does an earth leakage relay work?

How Earth Leakage Relays Work. Earth leakage relays operate on the principle of detecting the imbalance between the current flowing into an electrical system and the current returning through the neutral conductor. In a perfectly balanced circuit diagram, these currents should be equal, indicating no leakage.

What are the settings for the earth leakage relay?

The earth leakage relay was an electronic device that detects earth failures. This device operates for sensing earth leakages and opening a circuit diagram breaker when the leakage current flow exceeds the preset value. The current flow plug settings usually range from 10% to 70% in steps of 10% for earth leakage of the relays.

How do I test my earth leakage?

Turn off the main power. Using a ballpoint pen or similar pointed object, press the earth leakage breaker's test button. Check that the earth leakage breaker moves off the Off position. Return the earth leakage breaker to the On position.

What are the two types of earth leakage relays?

There are 2 types of earth leakage relays used in practice: The voltage-operated type. The core (current supply) balance type. Only the core balance type is used in the mining industry and domestic installations and will be discussed further.

Why do we test earth leakage?

Testing of an earth leakage (EL) is important to ensure that it is functioning correctly and is available to react to potentially life-threatening emergencies. However, one needs to fully understand what it is and what it does not do, and how it should be influenced by site factors into incorrect operation.
