When wiring is complete, always make sure that all connections are insulated and secured. Test phase and neutral position. Turn the supply ON and check the fan in the forward mode--the fan must exhaust air. And then switch to reverse--the fan must now be able to push air inwards. When the fan fails to spin in the right direction, recheck the switch wiring. Hear a strange noise or vibration, which may mean loose terminals. And finally, mark the switch positions with: Forward and Reverse. The fan is safe to operate and lasts a long time when properly tested.
