The following two-way switch exhaust fan connection diagram illustrates how to turn off and on a single exhaust fan when at two different positions. This is the best setup to use in bathrooms, kitchens, and hallways where there are two points where the fan might be required to be turned ON/OFF. The phase (live) is connected in wiring to the common of the first switch. Both switches are connected together with two traveler wires, and the second switch is connected to the fan phase terminal on its output terminal. Supply neutral is directly connected to the fan. Safety Earth wire is attached to fan body. When the diagram is used correctly, it will operate independently of each switch and avoid short circuits or electric shock.

- Input: Line (phase) and neutral from supply.
- Output: Exhaust fan controlled by two way switches.

- Connect phase wire from supply to the common terminal of the first switch.
- Connect two traveler wires between the two switches.
- Connect the output terminal of the second switch to the fan’s phase terminal.
- Connect neutral from supply directly to fan neutral terminal.
- Connect earth wire to fan body for safety.
- Turn ON supply and test by toggling either switch; the fan should operate from both locations.
Testing and Final Adjustments
Check wiring, verify connections after wiring and ensure they are insulated. Turn ON the supply and use each switch one by one to test the fan is working properly. Make sure that the traveler wires are properly connected between switches. Test the neutral and earth of the fan. Change the positions of the switches when the fan does not react as desired. Test several times, to make sure both locations work smoothly. When wiring is properly tested, faults are eliminated and exhaust fan control is safe and reliable.
