Be sure to make sure the ammeter needle or digital meter is not bouncing. Heating of checks at terminals, sparking or loose wires. Note the present reading as the meter. When negative or false values are read, reverse CT secondary connections. Proper testing provides reliable monitoring of circuit current in the long term.
