1.5V 220 Volt Inverter Mobile Phone Charger

Learn how to build a 1v5 220 Volt inverter using an old mobile phone charger. Step-by-step guide, circuit diagram, safety tips, and applications for DIY electro...

What is a 1v5 220 Volt Inverter?

A 1.5 V 220 V inverter is a product that can change the low-voltage DC input (1.5V) to the standard AC output 220V Inverters find a lot of applications in electronics to power equipment where there is no AC supply. With an EVoked mobile phone charger, one can make a small and effective inverter that can provide power to low-wattage devices. Important concepts of electronics, such as switching, transformation of voltage, and waveform generation, are also exhibited in this project.

non-contact voltage tester

You can sense a live AC wire without touching it with the Non-Contact AC Line Detector Circuit, using the BC547. The circuit has a high-value resistor to detect the small capacitive current induced when the detector is close to a live AC line. The signal is amplified by the BC547 transistor and causes an LED or a buzzer to signal the presence of the voltage. This circuit is small, easy to use, and suitable for hobbyists, students, and DIYers who would like to check AC lines, troubleshoot, or check wall sockets without having to touch live wires. When the probe is near a live wire, the LED is lit. The choice of components is proper with no false triggering. This device is also applicable to low current applications and must not be allowed to come into direct contact with high power lines.

Work / Installation (Inputs → Outputs)

  • Detection Probe → Held near the AC line.
  • High-Value Resistor → Senses capacitive leakage current.
  • BC547 Transistor → Amplifies the signal.
  • Indicator → LED or buzzer alerts presence of AC voltage.
  • Power Supply → Low-voltage DC supply powers transistor circuit.
  • Installation → Assemble on PCB or breadboard, connect indicator, test near live AC wire, and ensure insulation and safety.

Testing & Final Adjustments

Once it has been assembled, touch the detection probe to a live AC wire. The LED or buzzer must come on, which means that there is AC. Modify the values of resistors or the sensitivity of transistors in case the indicator is activated too soon or does not react. To prevent electric shock, it must not be used to measure high currents or to touch the mains. It is well insulated, enclosed safely, and powered with low voltage, which ensures reliable operation. Test against different AC sources so that the consistency of detection can be ensured. Final-tuning is used to prevent false triggers caused by nearby electrical devices, whilst at the same time ensuring safety and precision.

Frequently Asked Questions - 1.5V 220 Volt Inverter Mobile Phone Charger:

Can I make a 1v5 220 Volt inverter from an old mobile charger?

Yes, by using a transformer, transistors, and passive components, you can convert the charger output into 220V AC.

What devices can be powered using this inverter?

Small appliances, LED lights, and low-power electronics can be powered safely.

Is it safe for beginners?

Yes, if you follow safety precautions like insulation, fuses, and low-load testing.

Do I need additional components?

Yes, you need a transformer, MOSFETs or transistors, resistors, capacitors, and optionally a 555 timer IC.

Can it handle heavy loads?

No, it is suitable only for low-power devices and experiments.

How do I test the inverter?

Start with a small load like an LED and measure output voltage with a multimeter.

Do I need a fuse?

Yes, a fuse prevents overcurrent and protects the inverter and connected devices.

Can this inverter be used continuously?

It is recommended for short-term use under low load to prevent overheating.

Can I use it to power a motor?

Only small motors within the current capacity of the inverter.

How do I maintain the inverter?

Keep it clean, dust-free, check wires and solder joints, and store in a dry ventilated area.
